If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

There are business owners who have built their businesses based on relationships with a large number of people. They have delivered value, provided support or guidance and they gave without the expectation of receiving.

This built rapport, loyalty and trust. Over time, most of the people that they built the relationships with will Read the rest of this entry »

The 5 Prerequisites For Business Success Part 5: Action

on Sep-26-2009

All the prerequisites are important. But the fifth one is critical; Action

You must move your BUTT!

No one else can do it for you.

Remember my home study courses? They only work if you do!

You must take action, massive action to break the inertia of your current life. The inertia that holds you in the path you have been traveling for years.

Newton’s Laws of Motion state,
“An object at rest tends to stay at rest and an object in motion tends to stay in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.”

Think of the first law as saying that Read the rest of this entry »

The 5 Prerequisites For Business Success Part 4: Belief

on Sep-25-2009

Now comes Belief.

You must believe that:

  • It is possible
  • It is possible for you
  • It is valuable
  • Many people will want what you have
  • The world needs what  you have
  • That it will happen

Many of us believe that we simply don’t think it is possible for us to have what we want. We don’t think that great things can be accomplished, and specifically not by us.

This is the first belief Read the rest of this entry »

The 5 Prerequisites For Business Success Part 3: Impact

on Sep-24-2009

Passion needs Mission to have direction and flow. But the Mission needs to have an Impact!

Impact is what it means to the people who  are paying you. The more impact you can make in my life, the  more I am willing  to pay you.

If you had a business that gave me ideas to make more money, that would be an impact. The level to which you help me make money will dictate how much money I give you.

Let’s look at an example. You bought this book you are reading right now. It will help you get some ideas and direction on how to start a business of your own. That is valuable. It will make an impact on your life.

However, it is not a detailed, step by step plan that tells you exactly what business to open, how  to do it and how to make it run itself. So the impact, while valuable, is moderate. That is why it costs so little and why you were happy to pay the price.

In contrast, my home study course has a bigger impact on people.  It focuses on finding your passions, discovering what  holds you back, creating strategies for getting out of your own way and making a road map and action plan to start a business. If your need more information, direction and coaching  this course will have a bigger impact on you. You may very well decide to buy that  course from me. Because the impact is one you want.

Larger impact = more value = higher price you are willing to pay.

Taking the example another step, when you complete my finding your right livelihood hone study course you will have a really good idea of what business you will start.

Then, you will want to go through my Success@Business home study course to actually get the nuts and bolts of starting and running a business that will, in a relatively short time, run itself.

This is extremely valuable because the impact is very clear and large. The value of what  you spend for the course will be a small fraction of the value (income from your new business) that you will receive.

Larger impact = more value = higher price you are willing to pay.

In your business you need to understand the impact you will make. You need to get super focused on your customer, You need to know what impact they want and create it for them. You need to create 100 times more value (impact) than  you charge!

You can also make a moderate impact, but on a massive amount of people. You can find some small thing that millions of people want. Then find a way to get them to see it, understand they want it and a way for them to get it.

Impact is either large for individuals or small on a massive number of people. But, combining these two is the most powerful. Large impact + massive number of people = mega success in making a difference AND $.

Tomorrow we will look at the fourth prerequisite, Belief.

The 5 Prerequisites For Business Success Part 2: Mission

on Sep-23-2009

The first prerequisite is Passion.

But passion alone will only get you so far. You need the second prerequisite, Mission.

Your passion, when it is fully realized becomes your mission.

Your mission is the thing you are trying to accomplish. It is the outcome of your efforts. It is the intent of your passion.

Passion can be unbridled and undisciplined. It will follow the direction of the wind or a whim. Passion needs to have a framework to give it form and begin to define its function.

Mission is your passion spelled out in concrete terms.

For example, let’s say your passion is to have more financial security for your family. Then your mission may be to create a business that nets $150,000 per year.

If your mission was to have more time with your family your mission might be a little different. Your mission might be to create a business that nets $150,000 per year and you only have to spend 20 hours per week on it. And you get to choose the hours!

Mission is the target for your passions. It is the idealized objective that is to be accomplished.

The more defined the mission, the faster you achieve success. The more your mission is defined by your passions, the more you will know exactly what to do.

A focused mission, focused by your passion, will engage and excite you. It will also engage and excite the people around you, your team, your customers, your family and friends. A mission driven by passion will draw success to you.

But, even with your mission in place and your passion driving it, your business won’t reach its’ potential if you don’t have the third prerequisite in place.

You need to have an Impact on your customers.

We will talk about that tomorrow. Make sure you come back and read all about it.
